Jillur Rahman, a stage, drama and film actor at the same time. He is also very popular as a comedy actor. Originally this popularity came through Hanif Sanket's ‘Ittyadi’ magazine show.
Although many people know more or less about his 46 years of acting life, many may not know that he is a heroic freedom fighter. In the great war of independence in 1971, he took part in the war of liberation to liberate the soil of Bengal from the occupied enemy forces.
Although he was recognized for his contributions during the nine-month Liberation War by honoring him with the certificate of ‘Mujib Force’, but he was never given the freedom fighter's certificate!
However, many of the freedom fighters he trained during the war, are today well recognized as freedom fighters. The pain of not getting the certificate of freedom fighter even after becoming a trainer hurts him.
Even after passing all the exams to get the freedom fighter certificate, still he did not get his freedom fighter certificate. If he does not get the certificate of freedom fighter to survive, then even after death he will not be buried with proper state dignity as a heroic freedom fighter!
Jillur Rahman completed SSC from Motijheel T&T College, HSC from Notre Dame College and obtained Honors and Master’s degrees from the Department of Political Science, Dhaka University.
He started his acting career in 1973 with the play 'Rakte Veja Shapla' written by Abdus Sattar and directed by Atiqul Haque Chowdhury. Since then, he has acted in many more plays. He was associated with the theater troupe 'Theater' for more than five years. For this group, he has acted in several other stage plays including 'Swapnabhango' and 'Dashvan'.
However, he spends more time on TV dramas and movies than on stage. His first film was 'Beder Meye'. Since then, he went on to perform in more than 50 films including, 'Epar Opar', 'Ek Mutho Bhat', 'Bahadur', 'Nache Nagin Baje Bin', 'Patalpurir Golpo', 'Naram Garam' and 'Barud'.
He played the lead villain in the film 'Epar Opar'. At some point he became more engaged in comedy. Now, besides being a comedian in stage shows, he is also regularly appearing in TV dramas. He also has several comedy albums of his own.
Notable among his comedy series are: Chander Deshe Vatija, Rangbaj Vatija, ‘Hello Jillu’, ‘Vatija Ekhon Kothay’, ‘Chacha Vatija’ etc. Regarding his acting career, Jillur Rahman said, "I have been acting with all my heart for more than four decades with the love of the audience. I really enjoy acting. That's why I chose acting as my career. I want to continue acting till I die.”
Notable plays starring Jillur Rahman include Abdullah Al Mamun's 'Sangsaptak', Atiqul Haque Chowdhury's 'Goalini', 'Fansh' etc. Besides acting, he also does business. He was born in his grandfather's house in Jamalpur. His village home is Bikrampur. His father was late Khalilur Rahman and his mother was late Firoza Begum.
Jillur’s wife, late Dr Matia Qadri, was a former consultant at Holy Family Hospital. He has a daughter named Sadia Rahman and her husband Lt. Col. Haji Shamser Uddin.
At this age, Jillur Rahman spends his leisure time playing with his only grandson Isham. He is currently starring in Al Hazen's 'Alaspur', Hasan Jahangir's 'Chapabaj', Jabir Russell's 'Birambana', Noman Hasan Khan’s BTV serial 'Halud Chashma' and a few more.
