Tajul inaugurates online cattle market

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam on Saturday urged the cattle market organizers to arrange digital haats for selling and buying sacrificial animals ahead of the forthcoming Eid-ul Azha by maintaining social distancing, reports BSS.

“We have taken the initiative to save cattle farmers, traders, and marginal farmers from financial loss in this ongoing coronavirus crisis and stop further transmission of this deadly virus through this digital cattle market,” he said.

He was virtually inaugurating ‘DNCC Digital Haat’, online platform to buy sacrificial animals for Eid, as the chief guest under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), said a release.

“Those, who are planning to buy sacrificial animals will be able to do so with just a few clicks on their computer or smartphone for cattle sale in light of the pandemic.

Using it, a potential buyer will be able to view animals on a website, place order and pay, all digitally, Tajul said,

Besides, outside of the city, in village areas, local authorities can select one or two places for setting haat following the health rules, he said.

Tajul also forbade to set up a cattle market at the hotspot for the coronavirus.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md Mustafizur Rahman and Sheikh Fazle Fahim, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) were present with DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam in the chair.
