Tajul calls for collective action to achieve SDGs

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md. Tajul Islam said, we all have to work together to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the National Seminar on Sustainable Development Goal-6: Safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Expectations and Actions organized by Dainik Shomoy Patrika at Tejgaon in the capital on Sunday (December 18).

The minister said that development partners and private organizations should come forward along with the government to achieve SDG target-6 It is difficult for the government to achieve success alone, collectively we have to play our part

He also said that the government is making efforts to ensure safe water and sanitation Special emphasis is being given to marginalized groups Under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the national budget is now in a stable state He said that we have to increase the capacity to implement the budget

The local government minister said, we have to solve differently for coastal, hilly and drought-prone areas The Minister commented that separate water rates can be fixed for the poor and rich sections of the city Gulshan-Banani elite areas have higher water rates and arrangements should be made to reduce water rates in slum areas

Md. Tajul Islam also said that knowledge practice through seminars or symposiums is always important But at the same time it should be observed that, through these, correct information is spread among people

Syeda Rumana Akhter, Member of Parliament of Reserved Constituency, spoke as a special guest Speakers in the seminar commented that in order to achieve SDG target-6, there is a need to increase the allocation in the safe water, sanitation and hygiene sector as well as to ensure the equity of investment in rural and urban areas.

The seminar was presided over by Mohammad Golam Sarwar, Acting Editor of Our Times newspaper. Mahfuz Kabir, Director of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies, Research Fellow presented the main article. Saifur Rahman, chief engineer of Public Health Engineering Department also gave a speech among others
