Recitation organisation Muktak Padabali paid tribute to Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore organising a programme at National Art Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on Saturday.
The programme, titled ‘Hiran Kiran Chobikhani’, featured discussion and cultural show portraying songs and poem recitation performances on Tagore.
Muktak Padaboli, an organisation of reciters, arranged the event which featured the songs and poetry of Rabindranath and poetry devoted to him. The singers from Bangladesh and India performed at the event.
Veteran Bangladeshi poet Nirmalendu Goon attended the event as chief guest, while poet Dr Mohammad Samad, pro-vice chancellor, University of Dhaka, was present as special guest. The chief guest handed over the crests and uttorio (celebratory scarf) to the performers of the event.
“Rabindranath Tagore founded Shantiniketan to spread art, culture and literature among the masses. His works will continue to inspire generations to come,” said Nirmalendu Goon.
“Rabindranath Tagore’s poems give the readers a glimpse into human relationship, devotion, social anomalies and others. He also made significant contribution to travel literature,” said Muhammad Samad.
Eminent recitation artiste Molly Debnath from India recited poems titled ‘Sadharon Meye’, ‘Manab Putra’, ‘Kritaghna’, ‘Borshar Dine’ and ‘Mrityunjoy’, while Jayanti Soren rendered songs ‘Chokher Aloy Dekhechilem’, ‘Ogo Nodi Apon Bege Pagol Para’, ‘Modhur Modhur Dwani Baje’, ‘Tumi Kon Kanoner Phul’ and ‘Sharthok Jonom Amar Jonmechhi Ei Deshe’.
Renowned recitation artistes Rashed Hasan, Ahkam Ullah, Dewan Saidul Islam and Laila Afroz along with Indian artistes Joyanti Soren and Mauli Debnath recited self-penned and Tagore’s popular poems at the show.
