Syndicate responsible for low price of rawhide

Government has decided to open export of rawhide as it was selling at an alarmingly low price because of syndication of the tannery owners.    Because of low price millions of pieces of rawhide remain unsold which is dangerous for the business and the environment of the country.  Meanwhile, Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) is going to start buying rawhide of sacrificial animals immediately as per the fixed price, reports BSS. A commerce ministry statement on Wednesday said the BTA has decided to collect rawhide in response to the call of ministry before the scheduled time. The commerce ministry has been reviewing the ongoing situation on rawhide with the BTA for the convenience of people. The ministry requested the BTA to start collecting the rawhide urgently before the previously fixed date on August 20, the statement said. Considering the ongoing market situation in the country, the BTA announced its decision of buying rawhide immediately, it added. Meanwhile, traders have been urged to follow the appropriate process to preserve the rawhide locally to prevent the valuable resource from any damage. The commerce ministry has also directed the Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Upazila Nirbahi Officers to extend necessary cooperation to the people in this regard, said the statement.
