Switzerland to invest Tk 1,100cr in Bangladesh

Switzerland will invest around Tk 1,100 crore (Swiss Franc 119 million) in Bangladesh to support the country's successful LDC graduation, promote a just and resilient society, and contribute to peaceful coexistence.

Switzerland on Wednesday officially launched a cooperation programme in Bangladesh.

Under this programme, the country will invest around Tk 1,100 crore in Bangladesh in the next four years. This new cooperation programme is driven by Swiss foreign policy priorities and the country's international cooperation strategy. The programme was launched at a function held in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The overall goal of the Swiss Co-operation Programme 2022-2025 is to support Bangladesh's sustainable LDC transition, promote a prosperous, equitable and resilient society and contribute to peaceful coexistence.

This programme has been taken in line with the development priorities of Bangladesh including the Agenda 2030 and the Eighth Five Year Plan.

Planning Minister MA Mannan was present on the occasion as the chief guest.

The inaugural event was attended by other senior government officials, international and development partners, members of civil society and the media.

Patricia Danzi, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation (SDC), attended the event on the last day of her five-day official visit to Bangladesh.

During her first visit to Bangladesh, Patricia Danzi discussed bilateral relations, international cooperation, Bangladesh's development priorities and the Rohingya crisis with senior government officials, development partners and other key stakeholders.

He also visited Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar and various humanitarian and development projects funded by Switzerland in Cox's Bazar and Gazipur districts.
