Dhaka-based theatre troupe Swapnadal will mark Hiroshima Day 2025 with a special staging of their acclaimed production Tringsha Shatabdee on August 6 at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The programme, titled No More Hiroshima, No More War, No More Weapons, aims to promote global peace and awareness against the horrors of war.
This will be the 127th staging of Tringsha Shatabdee (The Thirtieth Century), directed by Zahid Repon and based on a story by renowned writer Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal. The play uses experimental theatre techniques to portray the devastating consequences of war, nuclear destruction, and the loss of humanity.
In addition to the theatrical performance, the event will include a commemorative speech session featuring peace activists, writers, and cultural personalities. They will discuss the importance of global disarmament and lasting peace, reminding audiences of the tragic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
A special photo and video exhibition on the Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombings will also be opened in the evening. The exhibition aims to educate visitors on the impact of nuclear warfare and raise awareness about the urgent need for peacebuilding efforts worldwide.
This Hiroshima Day observance is part of Swapnadal’s week-long campaign that began on July 24. The campaign includes awareness activities, exhibitions, and cultural discussions designed to engage the public in conversations about peace and resistance to violence.
Tringsha Shatabdee continues to receive acclaim for its bold storytelling and strong anti-war message. Through this initiative, Swapnadal once again reinforces its commitment to using art as a tool for social awareness and activism. The performance is scheduled to begin at 7pm and is open to all.
