Theatre troupe Swapnadal’s much-acclaimed monodrama ‘Helen Keller’ will be staged at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today.
Written by Apurba Kumar Kundu and directed by Zahid Repon, ‘Helen Keller’, the play will be staged to celebrate International Women's Day. Juyena Shabnam played Helen Keller in the play.
The production depicts the life, works, dreams, struggle and philosophy of the legend and ‘Wonder of the World’ Helen Keller. She was deaf-dumb-blind person, but able to overcome all obstacles by her extreme self-confidence and also by the extra-ordinary support of her teacher Anne Sullivan.
‘Helen Keller’ also speaks about her expectations of the women empowerment and humanism, strong stand against racisms, war, destruction and abuse of the Atomic weapons. Besides that, the experience of satisfactions and dissatisfactions in her personal life is also depicted in the ‘Helen Keller’.
The play sheds light and insight into the life of Helen Keller, a pioneer of education for the deaf and blind of all-ages.
Prior to the play, popular stage performer Rokeya Rafiq Baby will be honoured with Swapnadal’s International Women’s Day Honorary Award. Mancha Sarathi Ataur Rahman, veteran theatre activist SM Mohsin, Writer and Braille Publisher Nazia Jabin, stage and film actress Aruna Biswas were present as special guests.
Swapnadol have been organising International Women’s Day observation programme and presenting the award marking the day since 2012. In the previous years, thespians Ferdousi Majumder, Shimul Yousuf, Lucky Enam, Nuna Afroz, Irin Parvin Lopa, Tropa Majumder and Sadhona Ahmed have received the award.
