State Minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives Swapan Bhattacharjee on Friday opted for choosing cooperators with strong and bold leadership qualities to strengthen the cooperative system across the country, reports BSS.

He said this while inaugurating a two-day Bangladesh Credit Union Forum 2019 arranged by the Cooperative Credit Union League of Bangladesh Ltd (CCULB) in Cox’s Bazar, said a press release. Swapan said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has strengthened the cooperatives system and involved people through projects like “Amar Bari Amar Khamar”.

“We will have to make the cooperative familiar with the common people at the grass root level through ensuring transparency, efficiency and accountability in our activities,” he said. He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted to build a cooperative-based society to protect the farmers and general people from economic shambles.

Cox’s Bazar-2 constituency lawmaker Asheq Ullah Rafiq, Department of Cooperatives Registrar and Director General Md Aminul Islam, CCULB Chairman and Freedom Fighter Jonas Dhaki and Association of Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (ACCU) Chief Executive Officer Elenita V San Roque, among others, were present on the occasion.
