Bashundhara Kings have been a dominant team in local football, yet they were surprisingly beaten in the first game of the 2021–22 season by the league's new entrant, Swadhinata Krira Sangh. Although they triumphed over the Kings, Swadhinata didn't manage to stay in the league. After descending from the Championship League, they are now competing in the Senior Division League.

Following two seasons of setbacks, the club has overhauled its management. With a new committee at the helm, there's a renewed resolve to ascend to the league's pinnacle. The club's new chairperson, Roops, has made it clear, saying, "We've assembled a squad with the championship in sight. The players won't lack any amenities. Quality accommodation and nutrition are essential. Without these, how can we expect stellar performance? We're anticipating championship victories from the players after ensuring their comfort." The senior division league is set to commence post-Eid.

Yet, the Freedom Sports Association has already finalized its team roster. Kamal Babu, renowned for his grassroots-level coaching prowess, conveyed optimism regarding Swadhinata's prospects: "We scouted internationally and recruited players. Our selections include players from the Championship League and the first, second, and third divisions.

I'm wholly confident in their abilities. The club's leadership has vowed to offer top-tier facilities to the players. We're committed to giving our all. I aim to compete at the highest level. However, it's important to acknowledge that fortune also plays a part in clinching the title."

Moshiur Rahman, the club's newly appointed general secretary, expressed confidence in the coach, stating, "Babu Bhai is an exceptional coach. His presence brings us great hope. He has much to teach us." Syed Golam Roops, the new club president, is optimistic about a swift return to the premiership. "Our strategy is to progress gradually. Our aim is to rejoin the Premier League as champions."

In 2022, Swadhinata Krira Sangh not only overcame the Bashundhara Kings but also Saif Sporting. They managed to stand their ground against titans like Abahani and Sheikh Jamal.

Despite competing without international players in the latter half of the season, the team's relegation was sealed one match before the end.

The club's inception was fueled by the passion of football enthusiasts from Khilgaon in the capital. In a remarkable journey, the club climbed from the Pioneer level to the Premier League in 2022.
