Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Satya Prasad Majumder said, “The contribution of engineering in the development of civilization is undeniable. Almost everything in our lives has revolved around the benefits of technology.
One of the drivers of the current 4th industrial revolution will be mechanization. Renewable energy and sustainable energy management is one of the most important issues in engineering. We have to think about sustainable energy to meet the increasing energy demand of the country. That's why universities have to work on the R&D sector along with modernization of laboratories, industry-academia collaboration and increasing research activities.”
He said, “Regional collaboration can be much stronger than international collaboration. I believe it will be relatively simple and effective. BUET and CUET may collaborate. Our relationship is old. B is followed by C. Means the name of CUET comes after BUET. Exchange programs, teacher-student exchanges and joint research programs can be extended through bilateral agreements in BUET-CUET. Only then will the university and the students reach the desired goal.”
He said these things in the opening ceremony of the "7th International Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Renewable Energy" organized by Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Mechanical Engineering Department at the Central Auditorium on Thursday morning.
CUET Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam was the guest of honour in the conference. Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Chairman of Occupational Safety Board of Bangladesh Engineer Md. Hafizur Rahman and Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman were special guests. Conference Chair Professor Dr. Kazi Afzalur Rahman presided over the event.
Prof. Van Khang and Prof. Joao Leel from the University of Egder in Norway also spoke at the conference. Conference Secretary Prof. Dr. Prasenjeet Das gave a welcome speech. Shayla Shahreen Snigdha and Ahad Bin Azad, students of mechanical engineering department conducted the program.
In the speech of the Guest of Honour, Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said, “The role of mechanical engineers is important in meeting the challenges of the 4th industrial revolution. Modernization in the fields of mechanics, mecha-electronics, manufacturing, transport etc. with the help of machinery will greatly advance the standard of living. Renewable energy will help our development to be sustainable. Mechanical engineers will also play a role in the construction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's new vision Smart Bangladesh. I believe that this international conference of CUET will bring fruitful output with the participation of domestic and foreign researchers and teachers.”
At least three hundred teachers, researchers, scientists, professionals and entrepreneurs from about 11 countries of the world including America, Australia, India, Norway, Russia, United Kingdom, Malaysia are participating in this three-day conference.
In the conference important papers will be presented on the topic of mechanical engineering as well as on the current global issue of “Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development”. This year's conference will have 8 keynote speeches, 6 invited speeches, 14 technical sessions and a plenary session. A total of 134 articles are being presented including 72 in 7 sessions on the first day and 62 in 7 sessions on the second day.
Meanwhile, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam will be present as the chief guest in the Council Room of the Administration Building on the evening of November 17 and the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Prof. Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir and the Department of Mechanical Engineering will be present as special guests. Head of Department Professor Dr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman.
