Hundreds of candidates staged protest at the Rangamati Hill District Council on Wednesday, demanding the withdrawal of the suspension of the assistant teacher recruitment exam, scheduled to be held on November, for primary schools.
The demonstration began around 10:00 AM, with students blocking the main gate of the district council and staging a rally inside the premises. During the protest, they also locked the main entrance of the council office building.
Speaking at the rally, the candidates said, “The exam for assistant teacher positions was scheduled for November 14, but the district council issued a statement issued on Tuesday suspending it. We strongly oppose this decision.”
The protesters warned that their demonstration would continue until the council announces a confirmed date for the exam.
Recruitment of primary school teachers under the Rangamati Hill District Council has been halted since 2022. Currently, 589 vacancies exist, and 6,648 candidates have applied for the upcoming exam.
