A youth was killed in mass beating at Elahipur village under Jahapur union of Madhukhali upazila in Faridpur at the early hours of Sunday. The victim was identified as Moni Sheikh alias Nur (34) son of Felu Shikh of Karimpur village under Kanaipur union of Faridpur sadar upazila. Saiful Alam, Inspector (investigation) of Modhukhali police station informed, the early morning around 3-00 am on Sunday Moni Sheikh with two of his cohorts attempted to steal a battery operated van from the house of Sohrab Matubbar of Jahapur village.
But, sensing the attempted theft, the house owners along with his neighbours chased Moni and others. However, two other accomplices of Moni managed to escape but Moni was caught and given a mass beating. He was carried to the Modhukhali Health Complex in a critical condition in around 5-0 am where the attending doctors declared Moni dead. Felu Sheikh, father of victim Moni filed a murder case with Modhukhali police station accusing some unidentified persons. Police sent the dead body to the morgue of Faridpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
