Shirin Akter Shela was crowned the first Miss Universe Bangladesh 2019 on Wednesday. Shela came first and was crowned by former Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen in the capital’s International Convention City Bashundhara.
Shela is a 3rd year student of Physics department of Dhaka University. She beat 10 contestants in the finale and impressed both the judges and the audience with her wit and charm. The model is from Thakurgaon and has both social & career related ambitions. The first and second runners up were Alisha Islam and Jessia Islam respectively.
This is the first time Miss Universe Bangladesh has been organized in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The journey started from when the registration began in the end of July, 2019. The first round started with 12,000+ registrations then the elimination process started and then over the past three months of boot camp a winner was finally chosen.
‘Miss Universe Bangladesh’, the franchise owner for Bangladesh Miss Universe, is a consortium between RIZ events, Off Track & Trilogy. Rizwan Bin Farouq is the chairman of Miss Universe Bangladesh and Sohel A Chaklader Duke, Shafik Islam and Mithun Zaman are directors of the company.
‘Miss Universe Bangladesh will be the ambassador of Bangladesh as she will compete with participant from 130 countries in the 63rd Miss Universe in the USA this December and I am sure she will do very well’, said Rizwan Bin Farouq, Chairman, Miss Universe Bangladesh.
Judges of this grand event were Sushmita Sen, model and Bollywood actor, Tahsan Khan, singer, Kaniz Almas, managing director, Persona, Tootli Rahman, president, Bangladesh Heritage Craft, Rubaba Dowla, founder, Pulse Health Care, Farzanah Chowdhury, managing director, Green Delta Insurance, Rafiul Islam, managing director, Flora Bank, Zareen Delawar Hussain, Athar Ali Khan, former cricketer and commentator, Star Faruque, former Miss Ventura County California & Johnson County USA.
