Surge in Covid cases continues

Bangladesh recorded 2,537 new infections till 8am Wednesday, increasing the positivity rate. The total number of people infected has reached 8,17,819 with the new cases.

The current positivity rate stands at 12.33 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.39 percent, according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.

The country registered 36 more deaths from Covid-19 in the meantime, taking the death toll to 12,949, added the release.

The death rate now stands at 1.58 percent in the country. 

The number of fatalities has declined slightly while the number of newly infected has increased significantly compared to a day earlier. The country recorded 44 deaths and 2,322 new cases on Tuesday. 

Among the 36 deceased, 17 were men, and 19 were women. Of the victims, 33 died in different hospitals across the country while three died at home. 

10 of the deceased were from Khulna, nine from Rajshahi, six each from Dhaka and Chattogram, four from Rangpur and one from Sylhet division. 

20,584 samples were tested across the country till 8am Wednesday. 

At least 2,267 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,57,569 and the recovery rate at 92.63 percent.  

As of Wednesday, 3,764,256 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 174,802,787 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
