In view of the situation caused by the global epidemic coronavirus, ‘Bangladesh Supreme Court Day’ will be observed on 18 December in a limited scale, abiding by the health and hygiene rules, reports BSS.

To mark the day, a virtual discussion meeting will be held at the Supreme Court Auditorium with the participation of judges, lawyers and eminent personalities of both the divisions of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. The function marking ‘Bangladesh Supreme Court Day’ will be broadcast on YouTube channel and social media. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Judges Committee on December 9, chaired by Justice Mirza Hossain Haider of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, said Supreme Court spokesman and special officer Mohammad Saifur Rahman.

Committee members Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, High Court Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif, Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar, Attorney General and President of the Supreme Court Bar Association AM Amin Uddin and Supreme Court Bar Secretary Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal joined the meeting.

The Supreme Court of independent Bangladesh was established on 16 December, 1972. As the day is a public holiday, the first court hearing was held on December 18. At the full court meeting of the Supreme Court on 25 October 2017, it was decided to observe Supreme Court Day on 18 December every year.

Unlike every year, this year the day will be celebrated in a limited scale to prevent the transmission of coronavirus.
