The latest superhero film Superman has soared straight to the top of the North American box office, collecting $122 million in its opening weekend. Released by Warner Bros. and DC Studios, the film marks the beginning of a new chapter in the iconic franchise, with David Corenswet playing the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane.

Directed by James Gunn, the film received praise not only for its action sequences but also for strong storytelling. “This is an outstanding domestic opening for the seventh episode in a superhero story that’s been filmed for over 75 years,” said box office analyst David A. Gross. “Mr Gunn chose not to rely on big stars. The storytelling and filmmaking are doing the work here.”

Meanwhile, Universal’s Jurassic World: Rebirth slipped to second place after leading last week, earning $40 million in its second weekend. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali and takes viewers back to a mysterious island filled with genetically mutated dinosaurs.

In third place, F1: The Movie — featuring Brad Pitt as a former Formula One driver making a dramatic comeback — earned $13 million. The film is a joint project by Apple and Warner Bros.

Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s live-action reboot of How to Train Your Dragon came in fourth with $7.8 million, while Pixar’s sci-fi adventure Elio ranked fifth with $3.9 million.

The rest of the top ten includes 28 Years Later ($2.73 million), Lilo & Stitch ($2.7 million), Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning ($1.5 million), M3GAN 2.0 ($1.4 million), and Materialists ($720,000).

Box office experts say the summer season is seeing strong performances from visually rich, franchise-driven films.
