Sundarbans Tiger spotted in locality, officials advise caution

In the Sundarbans, a Royal Bengal Tiger has entered the locality of Sharankhola Upazila, causing panic among the villagers. On Thursday morning, the villagers saw tiger footprints in various places of Sonatala village of the upazila. Miking is being done by the forest department to make the public aware of the incident.

Shahidul Islam Sacchu, Vice-President of Community Control Group (CPG) engaged in forest protection, said that a tiger from the Sundarbans crossed the Bhola River and entered Sonatala village at some time on Wednesday night. The tiger roamed around in different places including the pond bank of the houses of Abu Bhaddar, Aslam Bhaddar, Ah Malek, Harun Hawladar of that village. 

In the morning, the villagers saw the footprints of the tiger and informed the forest department.

A. Rahim, forest guard of the Bhola patrol outpost of the forest department, said that he went to the spot after receiving information about the tiger entering the village and saw the footprints of the tiger. It is believed that the tiger returned to the forest at night. In this incident, from Thursday morning, the villagers are being miked to move carefully.

Sarankhola Range Officer (ACF) Samsul Arefin said, due to the filling of Bhola River, wild animals of Sundarbans can easily enter the locality. The Sundarbans tiger may have lost its way and entered the locality. To prevent the tiger from coming back to the locality or to take it back to the forest, forest department personnel are patrolling the village. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of East Sundarbans Division Muhammad Belayet Hossain said that the forest guards have been instructed to find out whether the tiger is still in the area and to make the public aware.
