All strata of people arranged a demonstration and humane chain on Sunday demanding exemplary punishment of minor girl Sumaya’s killers. The demonstration was held at village Parkrishnapur in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district. At that time the protesters demanded the capital punishment of the involved culprits.
Police of Damurhuda Thana detained Mominul Islam, son of Islamuddin of Parkrishnapur village in the upazila on February 1 and charged against him of killing and raping the minor.
The relative of the victim said that, Sumaiya Khatun was a grade 2 student at Chhaigharia Government Primary School in the upazila. She went out of her home on February 1 at 5 pm for playing and did not return home till 9 pm on the day. Parents and relatives of Sumaiya found her body lying at crop field. Police recovered the body and sent to Chuadanga sadar hospital for autopsy on Sunday.
A three-member medical team was formed, headed by Dr Sumaiya Ahmed, consultant of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital. The team found rape injuries on her body primarily. Locals of the areas arranged a demonstration and humane chain on the main road of village Parkrishnapur in the upazil on Sunday afternoon.
Aroti Halsena, head master of Chhaigharia Government Primary School, SM Jakaria Alam, chairman of Parkrishnapur-Modna Union Parishad, Jiaul Hoque, general secretary of the union Awami League, Adv Alamgir Hossain and Adv Hanif spoke at the program. They demanded capital punishment of the culprits.
Jahidul Islam, SP of Chuadanga visited the incident place, met with the parents of victim and expressed deep shock. He also stated that, the culprit will be taken under trail soon.
