Secretary General of Bangladesh National Awami Party (Bangladesh NAP) M Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan has said that Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy was a great pioneer of the democratic movement. Till the last moment of his life, Suhrawardy believed that there was no alternative to democracy in establishing political rights, he added.

He said these while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion, organised by Jatiya Janata Forum on the occasion of the 128th birth anniversary of Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy at Jadu Mia Auditorium at Nayapaltan in the capital on Tuesday.

The speakers said that Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy sincerely believed that the establishment of an accountable government could ensure the fundamental rights of the people as well as political and economic freedom.

He firmly believed that the development of democracy was possible only through a government formed by neutrally elected people's representatives. He never agreed to admit that democracy had failed. That is why he has become the 'son of democracy' in the minds of millions of democratic people.

Jatiya Janata Forum’s President Olid Siddiqui Talukder presided over the discussion while NDP Secretary General Manjur Hossain Isa and NAP Vice-Chairman Swapan Kumar Saha spoke at the event, among others.
