Sugarcane crushing begins in NBSM

The crushing of sugarcane for the 2023-2024 fiscal year starts at the North Bengal Sugar Mills (NBSM) at Lalpur under Natore district by throwing sugarcanes into the Cane career. The sugarcane crushing programme began on Friday. 

This is the 91st sugarcane-crushing operation of the NBSM.

Presided over by the Chairman of Bangladesh Sugar Food Industries Corporation Sheikh Soyebul Alam, the operation of sugarcane crushing was inaugurated by Shahidul Islam Bokul, Member of Parliament of Natore-1 constituency as the chief guest while Director General of Bangladesh Sugar Research Industries Dr Omar Ali, Deputy Commissioner of Natore Abu Naser Bhuiyan, Upazila Chairman Ishaque Ali, Mayor of Lalpur Municipality Mortuza Lily, UNO Shamima Sultana, Secretary of BSFIC Chowdhury Ruhul Amin Kaiser and Managing Director of NBSM Khabir Uddin Mollah attended as the special guests.

A discussion meeting and 'doa' mahfil were arranged at the mills premises on the occasion of the inauguration of the crushing.  Speakers at the meeting said with the use of the combined harvester and the planted, a new era of mechanisation starts in the cultivation of sugarcanes which will be cost-effective. 

Sugarcanes have been cultivated on 14,700 acres of land under the Mills zone area and a target of producing 11,000 metric tonnes of sugar has been fixed by crusrisng 170,000 metric tonnes of sugarcanes at the mills. The rate of extraction of sugar has been fixed at 6.50 per cent.
