Sugar, chicken, oil prices up, onion, potato down

Prices of essential commodities, including edible oil, have witnessed a rising trend while prices of vegetables have decreased slightly.

Capital's kitchen market on Friday saw a sharp price rise of broiler chicken, sugar, and edible oils while prices of vegetables and onions came down a bit. 

However, prices of potato, egg, rice, and meat remained stable.

While visiting different kitchen markets in the capital, including Karwan Bazar, this correspondent found such price variations of essential commodities.   

Sonali chicken was selling at Tk 210 per kg and broiler chicken was selling at Tk 135 to 140 per kg. Per kg sugar was being sold with an increase of Tk 5 at Tk 70 per kg. 

Loose edible oil was being sold at an increase of Tk 5 per liter from Tk 127 to Tk 130. At present, a 5-liter bottle of Rupchanda brand soybean oil is being sold at Tk 610, Bashundhara at Tk 560, Pusti at Tk 565 and Teer at Tk 570.

Karwan Bazar trader Yousuf said, "The price of per barrel of edible oil has gone up. Due to this, the retail price has increased from Tk 2 to Tk 5 per liter in a week. Edible oil prices have started rising in the international market. Oil prices will rise further." 

The price of onion has come down. Local onions are being sold at Tk 30 per (kilogram) kg, while onions imported from China are being sold at Tk 25 per kg. 

In the vegetable markets, it was found that, radish was selling at Tk 10 per kg, bean was selling at Tk 20 per kg, tomato was selling at Tk 40 per kg and turnip was selling at Tk 20 per kg. String bean was being sold Tk 40 per kg, brinjal Tk 20 per kg, cucumber Tk 40 per kg, parwal Tk 50 per kg, papaya Tk 30 per kg, bitter gourd Tk 30 per kg, okra Tk 30 per kg, and carrots were being sold at Tk 40 per kg, per piece of cauliflower and cabbage is now Tk 20, per piece of gourd is selling at Tk 30.  

The price of new potatoes has come down. New potatoes with a reduction of Tk 5 are being sold at Tk 20 per kg, new onions at Tk 40 per kg. Green chillies are being sold at Tk 90 per kg. Besides, ginger is being sold at Tk 80 per kg and garlic at Tk 120 per kg.  

The prices of beef and mutton, spices and other commodities remained unchanged in these markets.

Mutton is being sold at Tk 700 to Tk 750 per kg, beef at Tk 550 per kg and buffalo at Tk 550 to Tk 580 per kg.  

In these markets, per kg chital fish is selling at Tk 450 to Tk 500 per kg, Awn fish at Tk 500, Rohi is at Tk 250 to Tk 350 per kg, Katla at Tk 170 to Tk 280, Tilapia sold at Tk 130 to Tk 160, Boal fish at Tk 400 to Tk 500, Pangas is sold at Tk 120 to Tk 150, Pabda sold at Tk 280 to Tk 350, and Shing sold at Tk 400 to Tk 550 (based on quality and size).
