Outstanding success has been achieved in producing seedless plum in Magura. Farmer Nasirul Islam of village Rautara under Magura sadar upazila deserves this glorious credit.
Nasirul informed that he collected seedlings of seedless plum from Magura hortticulture center which they imported from India. Then he planted 2 thousand seedlings covering his 4 acres of land in last March.
The trees flowered in last August while turned into fruits in last October. The fruits will be matured in coming December. Riped plum takes the mixed color of green and red.
The plum is also more delicious compared to common variety of plum providing more sweetness. Moreover this plum can be harvested earlier compared to common variety.
Due to early harvesting farmer can enjoy the lucrative price. Sandy loaf soil and shade surrounded place are congenial for seedless plum cultivation. His total investment has stood at tk 4 lakhs. He will be able to earn tk 20 lakhs by selling his seedless plum.
When contacted Magura DAE, deputy director Shushanta Kumar Pramanik, said. “We are proud of Nashir as he has become successful in producing seedless plum in Magura for the first time. We are optimistic, Nasir will be able to count a handsome profit from his seedless plum.”
