Students of Magura Polytechnic Institute are being deprived of class as teachers of the institute have been boycotting the class for 17 days
A total of 42 teachers have been boycotting class since February 1. For this reason, uncertainty is prevailing over completing curriculum of five departments in the institute. In this situation, the students staged demonstration demanding class. They formed a human chain on the campus on Tuesday.
Teacher of Magura Polytechnic Institute teacher Babul Vattacharga informed, two shifts were opened in five departments in the institute from 2008-2009 session. The teachers of first shift were running the class under the condition of giving 50% of basic as honorarium per month. The teachers were getting Tk 11 thousand per month that is 50 % of their basic according to pay scale of 2015. They got Tk 11 thousand for taking class in 2nd shift till June of 2018.
But a circular was issued on September 5 of 2018 saying that for serving 2nd shift the teachers will be paid 50% of basic according to pay scale of 2009. In this way teachers are now getting Tk 5500 for serving 2nd shift . On the other hand, due to 2nd shift teachers are to stay in college from 8 am to 7 pm instead of 1 pm. Number of times teachers have 0 praised their demand to concerned authority to reign state their honorarium according to pay scale of 2015 .
However, as their demand is falling on deaf ears they have decided to boycott class. When contacted Magura polytechnic institute principal Engineer Monir Hossen admitted the incident of boycotting class. He told, demand of teachers is logical. Concerned authorities should take congenial step in this regard as early as possible.
