All students of primary and secondary level across the country will get new textbooks on time despite the coronavirus pandemic.
However, there will be no ‘Textbook Festival’ on January 1 this year. The festival has been observed for the last 11 years. New textbooks will be delivered to students in an alternative way this year. Guardians on behalf of the students will collect new books from the schools.
National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Chairman Narayan Chandra Shaha on Sunday told Bangladesh Post, “More than 90 percent books for primary students have already been sent at Upazila level. We will complete sending 100 percent books to all schools within two or three working days.”
“Besides, about 70 percent books of secondary level have been printed. The remaining books will also be printed in due time. We will deliver these books by December 31,” he added.
It was known that the tender procedure for distribution of the free textbooks of 2021 academic year could not be completed on time due to the pandemic.
Despite the effect of the virus, the work of printing the books has not been delayed. Printing of textbooks is going on in full swing.
Employees of at least 400 printing houses (press) across the country worked 24 hours (day and night) maintaining social distance, according to NCTB. Like every year, 36 crore books will be ready before January 1 for four crore primary and secondary level students across the country.
