Students of school and college in Thakurgaon staged demonstration for third consecutive day on Sunday demanding trial of the murder of minor girl Sumona.
The students of Thakurgaon Govt Girls’ and Boys’ High School brought out a procession in the district town at noon. The procession paraded different roads in the town. Guardians and common people also took part in the procession.
Later, the agitated students besieged the DC and SP’s offices. They submitted seperate memorandums to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police in Thakurgaon demanding exemplary punishment of the murderers.
DC Dr Kamruzzaman Selim, and SP Moniruzzaman received the memorandum and assured the students of taking initiatives.
Police exhumed the body of Sumona Haque, 9, daughter of Jewel of Goalpara area and a Class 3 student of Thakurgaon Government Girls High School, from the neighboring house of Yasin Ali on Thursday night.
Police also arrested teenager Reaz Ahmed Kanon, 13, son of Yeasin and Class 9 student of Thakurgaon Government Boys High School, in connection with the killing. Kanon was sent to Kishore Unnoyon Kendra (Juvenile Development Center) in Jashore.
