Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) continued demonstrations on Tuesday, demanding expulsion for life within 72 hours and death sentence of the killers of Abrar Fahad. Since early morning on Tuesday students from different residential dormitories and other parts of the city gathered in front of the university’s cafeteria on Tuesday morning vowing to continue their protests until their demands are met.

Expressing resentment over the university vice-chancellor’s silence on the murder issue, they placed an 8-point demand, including immediate arrest of all accused in Abrar Fahad murder case. Abrar Fahad, 22, a second-year-student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department and a resident of Sher-E-Bangla hall, was beaten to death allegedly by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of the university campus.

The agitating students also announced that all academic activities, including the admission process would remain suspended for indefinite period. Carrying placards and banners, the protesters chanted slogans against the killers and university authorities for keeping inactive over the issue.

Besides, former students from different parts of the city also expressed solidarity with the agitating students demanding immediate exemplary punishment to all the accused in Abrar Fahad murder case and sought highest punishment of the killers and to restore congenial atmosphere on the campus.

Apart from them, Teachers' Association of BUET also extended its all-out support to the agitating students’ movement, saying there is no need of students' politics on the campus. The other demands include, trial of the accused in the Abrar murder case under Speedy Trial Tribunal, clarifying BUET Vice Chancellor’s position on the murder issue by appearing before the agitating students by 5 pm on Tuesday, expulsion of teasers who mentally and physically torture students for differences of opinions.

Besides, withdrawal of Sher-e-Bangla Hall provost for his ignorance about the incident of driving out some students from the hall using political power, bearing all expenses of Abrar murder case by BUET administration and realizing compensation for the family of Abrar and banning party politics on the campus.

Besides, students of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University formed a human chain in front of Dhaka College seeking justice for the murder of Abrar Fahad. Police arrested nine leaders and activists of BCL in connection with the killing of Abrar on Monday and his father filed a case against 19 BCL men with Chawkbazar Police Station.

On the other hand, under the banner of ‘general students’ the students of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Jahangirnagar and other public universities on Tuesday took out procession and staged demonstration on their respective campuses in protest against the brutal murder.
They also demanded immediate exemplary punishment to those involved in killing the Buet student Abrar.
