Students of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) and Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) expressed their solidarity with the two protesting students of Khulna University (KU) who are protesting against KU’s expulsion decision against them.

In Gopalganj, BSMRSTU students formed a human chain on the university campus in Gopalganj on Sunday

demanding withdrawal of the expulsion decision of 3 teachers and 2 students of Khulna University, reports our BSMRSTU Correspondent.

Under the banner of “BSMRSTU General Students”, about a hundred students participated in the human chain in front of the university main gate. From the human chain, they expressed solidarity with the two protesting students of KU.

Addressing the human chain, Uzzal Mandol, a third year student of BSMRSTU Law Department said, “Teachers and students have right to express their own opinion freely. But in the name of disciplinary actions, KU authority is trying to keep their mouths shut”.

Criticizing the decision taken by KU authorities, Jobayer Hossain, a 4th year student of International Relations Department said, “It is a matter of great shame that teachers along with students have to face expulsion for expression solidarity with a logical student movement. We demand immediate withdrawal of decision”.

Notably, KU authority suspended 2 students for two years alleging that they misbehaved with the faculty and expressed their unwillingness to cooperate with the team formed by the university to investigate a student movement that took place in 2020. Besides, the authority also dismissed an assistant professor and terminated two other lecturers for supporting the student movement last year.

Meanwhile in Noakhali, NSTU students protested the move of Khulna University authorities’ to expel those students by forming a human chain in front of NSTU Central Shaheed Minar on Sunday. Mahmudul Hasan Arif, a student of the Department of Sociology of NSTU, conducted the human chain, reports our NSTU Correspondent.

The students at the time said, the university administration should be friendly towards the students. It is alarming that KU authorities are taking actions against the student and teachers’ involvement in a movement, which is not acceptable.

We strongly condemn and protest against such an aberrant attitude of the Khulna University administration to its teachers and students and we demand immediate withdrawal of this decision of Khulna University authority.
