Students of seven government colleges on Monday blocked the High Court intersection further demanding the issuance of an ordinance for Dhaka Central University.

They blocked the roads around 3:45pm, causing traffic movement through the area to come to a halt as well as severe congestion on nearby roads.

At around 2:30pm, a seven-member student delegation went to the education ministry to discuss their demands.

Mahbubur Rahman Naeem, a student of the 2024-25 session in the History Department of Government Titumir College, said although their representatives went to the ministry, the authorities are stalling their demand for the ordinance.

"That is why we have blocked the road," he said.

As of 6pm, the students were still blocking the roads awaiting the return of the student group who have gone to the ministry for talks.

Masud Alam, deputy police commissioner of DMP's Ramna Division, who was present at the scene, said the students blocked the road before their representatives returned from the discussion.

Earlier on Sunday, students of the seven colleges blocked the High Court intersection from 3:30pm to 7pm.

Later that night, a section of them took position in front of the education ministry building.

This morning from 11am, the students again blocked one lane of the road in the same spot and held demonstrations.
