Students of five colleges, including Dhaka College, blocked the Shahbagh intersection on Sunday demanding cancellation of the schooling system described in the proposed outline of Dhaka Central University.

The students initiated the blockade at 11:45 am, bringing traffic through the intersection to a standstill.

According to the students, an ordinance and a ministry press release, based on the schooling system of Dhaka Central University, created uncertainty over the existence of higher secondary education.

Ramna Division Deputy Police Commissioner Masud Alam said a ten-member team of students went to the Secretariat for talks. Then, at 12:20pm, the students left the road. Dhaka College student Walid Hasan Rahin said they would block Shahbagh again if the meeting is not fruitful.

Around 11am, Dhaka College higher secondary students gathered at Science Lab. Students of Government Bangla College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Shaheed Suhrawardy Government College, and Begum Badrunnesa Government Women's College later joined them and blocked the Shahbagh intersection.
