Students of Begum Rokeya University have given an ultimatum to the interim government's Chief Advisor, the Ministry of Education, and the University Grants Commission (UGC) to appoint a Vice-Chancellor (VC) within five working days. The ultimatum was issued during a press conference held at the university gate on Friday.
Class representatives from various departments attended the press conference and expressed their concerns about the delay in appointing a new VC. They emphasized the need for a qualified and strong individual connected with a world-class curriculum to lead the university as the VC.
"Our university needs a VC who is qualified, has backbone, and is well-versed with a world-class curriculum. The lack of leadership is affecting the overall environment and quality of education," said one of the class representatives.
The students further urged the authorities to take the necessary steps to improve the quality and environment of education at the university in the coming days.
They highlighted that a competent and dynamic VC is essential for ensuring better academic standards and a positive learning environment for all students.
The representatives also expressed their demands and expectations from all concerned authorities, urging them to address these issues urgently.
They stressed the importance of immediate action to safeguard the academic future of the students at Begum Rokeya University.
The students warned of further protests if their demands are not met within the given time frame, signaling their readiness to continue their movement until a VC is appointed.
The call for action from the students reflects the growing frustration and impatience among the general students due to the prolonged vacancy in the VC position, affecting the smooth functioning of the university.
