In a heinous act of crime, a madrasa student has been hacked to death by miscreants for smoking cigarette in Munshiganj’s Srinagar. Another teenager was seriously injured during the incident. The incident took place at around 8:30 pm on Thursday near Deulbhog cattle market in the upazila.
The victim’s name is Rabiul (18), son of day labour Habib and a student of a madrasa in Hashara area. The injured teenager's name is Ali Hossain (18). His father Habibur Rahman Habib is an employee of a local children’s academy.
According to the locals, last Wednesday, Rabiul and Ali Hossain smoked in front of Sohail (28). Sohial is senior than them and he became angry as two young boys were smoking in front of him. So, they got into a quarrel.
The next day, on Thursday evening, Sohail called Rabiul and Ali to talk on this matter. Sohail's brother Sumon, Shuvo and Nazrul Islam’s son Rakib and some others were present at the time. At one point in the altercation, two men struck Rabiul in the neck with a sharp knife and threw him to the ground. Ali Hossain was stabbed in the back, hand and chest and was seriously injured.
After hearing their screams, locals came to their rescue and took them to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex. From there, Rabiul was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. One of the killers identified, Sohel, is a night guard of Upazila Land Office.
Srinagar police OC Hedayatul Islam Bhuiyan said that, Rabiul's body was in the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and legal action will be taken against the culprits soon.
