Anik Mia, a student, was beaten to death in Nagariakandi area of Meghna river in Narsingdi.
The incident took place on the east bank of the Sheikh Hasina Bridge on the Meghna River on Tuesday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Anik Mia, son of Shahidullah Mia of Kalaigobindapur area of Nazarpur union of Sadar upazila and a tenth grade student of Kalikumar High School, Satirpara.
Shahidullah Mia, the father of the deceased, said that Anik went to visit Sheikh Hasina Bridge area with some of his classmates in the afternoon. At that time, a group of youths came by boat, beat him up and threw him into the river and left the boat, which can be clearly seen in the video footage of the social media. After a long search, he could not be found. After half an hour, the body of the deceased was found floating and the Sadar Police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital Morgue.
Officer-in-charge of Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station Biplob Kumar Dutta Chowdhury said no signs of injuries were found on his body initially. Upon receiving the news, his body was recovered and sent to the morgue. At the end of the autopsy, the real cause of death can be said.
Police could not arrest anyone in the incident.
