The city corporation authorities have pledged to enforced a tougher health safety rules during this coming Eid festival where thousands of sacrificial animals are expected to be traded amid the on-going covid-19 pandemic.

In such risks of wider transmission of coronavirus, the concerned bodies consider maintaining hygiene to be the utmost priority.

Both, the Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporations are adapting strict policy measures in order to maintain a safe and hygienic environment during the festive season. They have adapted initiatives in order to minimize the risk and impose quick waste management.

Furthermore, a 10-day training campaign is planned for imams and butchers all over the capital. The campaign would be executed within July 1 to July 14. The training would focus on maintaining safety measures during the Eid and adapting hygiene guidelines while slaughtering and processing the cattle.

Veterinary officer Sharmin Samad told Bangladesh Post that a veterinary and monitoring team would be active in all of the cattle markets in Dhaka. All the cattle would be strictly examined before the sales begin in full swing.

“It is important to maintain hygienic guidelines especially during the pandemic. All the animals will be physically examined and any illegal activity would be monitored and dealt with by our team that would be on the vigil,” she said.

She further said that awareness leaflets would be distributed among the people to make them more cautious during their visit to the markets.

DNCC’s Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Md Zobaidur Rahman told Bangladesh Post that every cattle market will be provided with a vigilance team. The team would ensure that the public are maintaining safety guidelines such as wearing face masks, washing hands.

“In such situations, social distancing would be difficult to implement but our team will try their best. They will make sure everyone wears a mask. Sanitizer and hand washing facilities would be made available for everyone,” he said.

Last year DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh formulated health guidelines for the make-shift cattle markets to prevent the spread of Covid-19 as much as possible. Similar steps are going to be implemented this year as well.
