Stronger bilateral ties to benefit both Dhaka, Moscow: Russian Ambassador

Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh Alexander Khozin on Sunday said he is confident that stronger ties with Bangladesh will benefit both Moscow and Dhaka.

"This cooperation will bring security and prosperity to our peoples, as well as stability to the region and the world," he said while speaking at a reception.

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Dhaka hosted the reception on the occasion of Russia Day.

Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan spoke as the chief guest, recalling the solid foundation Bangladesh-Russia relations stand on and expessing optimism about deepening bilatral cooperation in energy and agriculture sectors.

Ambassador Khozin noted that the relations between Dhaka and Moscow are on the rise and there are prospects to make the bilateral cooperation even more solid.

For more than 50 years, the Russian Ambassador said, the relations between Russia and Bangladesh have been based on the principles of friendship, equality and mutual respect.

Today, Ambassador Khozin said, Bangladesh is Russia’s second largest trade partner in South Asia.

"For several years in a row, our bilateral trade has been exceeding two billion US dollars, with wheat and fertilizers being the major export goods from Russia," said the envoy.

The Russian company Gazprom is a long-term player in the energy domain of Bangladesh with 20 drilled gas wells on the Bhola island and two discovered gas fields.

"This year we widely celebrate 80 years of the glorious victory in the GPW and the end of WWII.  Also, this year the celebration of Russia Day in Bangladesh is special. 80 years ago, the Soviet Union founded its atomic industry," he said.

The Ambassador said It became a symbol of scientific progress and solid sovereignty of the country and largely impacted the development of the entire national economy.

Presently, he said, talented engineers, designers, and technical specialists from Russia and Bangladesh work hard towards the completion of the Nuclear Power Plant in Rooppur, with its first unit expected to be launched by the end of this year.

Russian culture is internationally recognized and Russian ballet and literature, art and theater have become an integral part of the human heritage, said Ambassador Khozin.

He highlighted Russia's vast natural resources, scientific potential, and cultural heritage.

The Ambassador also emphasized Russia's independent foreign policy that aims at creating an equal and indivisible security architecture in Eurasia.

The event's cultural programme featured a musical performance by the Moscow Russian Song Ensemble.

The audience enjoyed Russian traditional songs interpreted with modern touch.

The guest performance was organized by Russian state corporation “Rosatom”, which is constructing the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh in Rooppur (Pabna District).

Today, energy cooperation is a driving force of Russia-Bangladesh cooperation.

The year of 2025 marks the celebration of 80 years of atomic industry in Russia - a symbol of scientific progress and solid sovereignty of the country.

The reception brought together Bangladeshi officials, representatives of diplomatic corps, media and business communities, academic circles, cultural figures, and Russian compatriots.

The guests also saw the exhibition entitled “The Images of Russian History”, which included 30 reproductions of masterpieces reflecting the milestones of the historical path of the country.
