Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Tuesday said a stable government under a strong leadership turned Bangladesh into a development model, as he joined the 2nd International Conference on Justice that began in Morocco’s Marrakesh city, reports BSS.
“Since 2009, Bangladesh started making unprecedented and tremendous success for socio-economic development, and presently turned into a ‘development miracle’ from a so called ‘bottomless basket’, and sets an example of development for other developing countries of the world,” he told the conference.
Huq added that good governance, continuous political stability, and fair macroeconomic policy and priority to proper development earned Bangladesh the desired pace of progress. The two-day conference with “Justice and Investment” being its theme drew more than 40 justice ministers and several senior officials of high judicial councils and prosecutors in Morocco.
Moroccan King Mohammed VI in a message addressed to the opening ceremony of the event yesterday, said justice was one of the key sectors that help improve the investment environment, promote free enterprise and protect entrepreneurship. “The investment climate requires legal and economic guarantees that ensure confidence in the judicial system,” he said.
Organisers said the conference aimed to facilitate integration of the world’s economy into the system of globalization alongside reinforcement of channels of communication between the legal and judicial systems. Huq said Bangladesh’s achievements were particularly attributable to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s political commitment to make Bangladesh a middle income country by 2021 and developed one by 2041.
“While we are close to achieving Vision 2021, our goal is to become a developed country by realizing our Vision 2041,” he added. The minister said after assuming the office in January this year for the 3rd consecutive term, Sheikh Hasina reinforced her zero tolerance policy to corruption and terrorism.
He said Bangladesh took a number of steps to create a favourable environment for the private sector so it plays its due role as an effective economic agent and substantially contribute to the country’s overall economic development.
