Strong economic co-op within Indian Ocean rim region stressed

Two-day int’l leadership summit begins in Dhaka

A two-day international leadership summit begin in Dhaka on Sunday aiming to strengthen economic cooperation within Indian Ocean Rim Association. 

The association is an inter-governmental organisation aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and sustainable development within the Indian Ocean region through its 23 member states representing a $20.5 trillion-dollar economy.

Indian Ocean Rim Business Forum organizes the event at InterContinental Dhaka with the theme of the summit is "Roadmap for Post-Pandemic Progress".

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen attended the inaugural session of the summit as the chief guest while Comerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Ambassador Salman Al Farisi, Secretary General of IORA, Samir Modi, President, Confederation of Asia Pacific Chamber of Comerce and Industries, UAE Ambassador in Dhaka, Abdullah Ali Ahmed al Hamudi former President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI), Shafiul Islam Mohiudin MP were the special guests.

Sheikh Fazle Fahim, chairman of the forum's Bangladesh chapter in the chaired inaugural session.

The forum is the trade and investment functional body of the association which supports economic cooperation by providing a collective business perspective to the members' policymakers.

The summit holds four sessions focusing on maritime safety and security, fisheries management, blue economy, trade and investment facilitation, women's economic empowerment, blockchain, tourism and science and technology.
