Strike continues at JU demanding VC’s removal

A faction of teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University continued their strike for third consecutive day on Monday demanding removal of vice-chancellor Farzana Islam over the graft allegation. The teachers and students, who are continuing their strike under the banner “Jahangirnagar Against Corruption, took position in front of the old and new registrar buildings at 9:00 am and besieged until 3:30 pm. Later, they brought out a protest procession on campus and blockaded the Dhaka-Aricha highways for half and hour in front of the main entrance of the campus.

The protestors also went to the VC’s residents while they chanted slogans “get out VC form JU” in front of her residence. After the rally, Prof Sayed Ferdous of Anthropology department, one of spokespersons of the platform declared that they would continue their protest until the removal of the corrupted VC.

During the strike, classes and examinations of different departments remained closed. Meanwhile, JU unit BCL through a press release signed by its president Jewel Rana urged the protestors to keep congenial atmosphere on the campus and keep the classes and examination free from their movement.
