The government has imposed a strict lockdown from June 22 to 30 in seven districts of the country due to the surge in coronavirus transmission. All kinds of government and private offices and services, except the emergency services will remain closed in the areas.
Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam made the disclosure in a briefing of the Cabinet Division on Monday.
He said that the restrictions would be effective in Manikganj, Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Rajbari, Madaripur and Gopalganj districts from 6am Tuesday (June 22) to 12pm Wednesday (June 30). All public and private offices will be closed during the lockdown.
When asked what would be closed in these seven districts, he said, "Everything will be closed. People will not be able to travel. Nothing will ply except freight trucks and ambulances. The districts will be blocked. Thus, no one will be able to come and go out of those districts.”
“Only law enforcers and emergency services, such as agricultural goods and materials (fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, agricultural machinery, etc.), food grains and food transport, relief distribution, healthcare, Covid-19 vaccines, electricity, water, gas / fuel, fire service, port (river port) activities, telephone and internet (public-private), media (print and electronic media), private security system, offices related to other urgent goods and services including postal service, their staff and vehicles and freight trucks will remain out of the purview of the ban,” Anwarul Islam further said.
