The workshop on ‘Strategy for making bamboo products’ was held at the Auditorium of Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFRI) in Chattogram on Thursday.
The workshop was chaired by Dr Md Masudur Rahman, Director of the Institute. Former BFRI director Dr Khurshid Akter presented the keynote paper while Dr Md Mahbubur Rahman presented the article on techniques for making bamboo products. Former BFRI director Dr Khurshid Akter said, “From birth to death, people need bamboo. In the future, bamboo furniture will become the safest and most environment friendly in the world. Bamboo gives us oxygen while in the bush, and after cutting down it can use as furniture”.
Director of AK Khan Group Shamsuddin Khan said, "The way of vegetation is reducing day by day, there will be no alternative of bamboo furnishing in the future." Dr Md Masudur Rahman said, “Bamboo furniture is important not only for Bangladesh but for the whole world. Bamboo is a blessing for us, it has to be used sustainable. There is no alternative to using bamboo furnishings to reduce the stress on the tree.
At that time, Md Shahjahan, Manager (Business Promotion) of the Center for Zakat Foundation Chittagong, CMT International Lily Chakma, Farhad Zaman Jani, Ashish Dev Abhi, Hathazari Upazila Vice Chairman Mokhtar Begum, and Bangladesh Furniture Owners Association Senior Vice President Nurul Amin Khan were also delivered their speech.
