A seminar on the current state and future prospects of coastal marine culture in Cox's Bazar was held in the conference room of a hotel in Cox's Bazar on Sunday noon.
Speakers at the seminar said, in order to move the country forward, marine resources must be used, among other things. There are many possibilities in the vast sea of Bangladesh. If we can ensure the proper use of this potential, the country will be able to take advantage of the Blue Economy.
They added that sea weeds from Bangladesh is regularly exported abroad earning the country a lot of foreign currency. It was informed at the seminar that the government is working to increase this export.
Dr. Yahia Mahmud, Director General of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute in Mymensingh, was the chief guest at the seminar organized by Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute and Marine Fisheries and Technology Centre, Cox's Bazar.
Under the chairmanship Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Chief Scientific Officer of Marine Fisheries and Technology Centre Md. Mohidul Islam, Project Director at Marine Fisheries and Technology Centre read the keynote speech.
Md. Enamul Haque, Chief Scientific Officer at Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Sahnoor Zahidul Hasan, Dr. Abdur Razzak and Dr. Ashraful Haque, project Directors at Marine Fisheries and Technology Centre, Tarapada Chauhan, Senior Fisheries Officer and others were present at the time.
Fifty representatives of various classes and professions including seaweed farmers, dry fish traders and government officials took part in the seminar.
