Although 'Yaas' formed in the Bay of Bengal turned into a very strong cyclone and crossed the coastal areas, it was not likely to hit Bangladesh. It became even weaker and made a deep depression in Indian territories.

However, the meteorological department said that the storm and rain will continue for two days in different parts of Bangladesh, especially in the western areas.

As a result, local warning signal No. 3 has been maintained in four seaports of Bangladesh. In addition, inland river ports have been asked to show the No. 2 naval warning signal.

Cyclone ‘Yaas’ was moving further north and northwest, weakening to a deep depression in northern Orissa and nearby Jharkhand of India, a weather warning said yesterday. The deep depression may progress further north and northwest and become progressively weaker.

Subsequently, the air pressure difference between the North Bay and the coastal areas of Bangladesh has been very high. The sea being rough, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to show local warning signal number 3.

Meteorologist Khandaker Hafizur Rahman said that, winds speeding around 50 to 60 KM per hour may flow over Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, Borguna, Potuakhali, Barisal, Bhola, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur and Chittagong districts due to the excess of air pressure difference. In addition, the lowlands of these areas may be flooded by tides two to four feet higher than normal.

Meanwhile, the sky in Dhaka has been cloudy since Thursday morning due to intimidating weather. Besides, it has been raining in all the sections for the last two days.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours from 9 am on Thursday said that most parts of Khulna, Barisal, Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions and some parts of Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions may experience showers or thundershowers with temporary gusts. At the same time, there may be moderate to heavy rains in the western part of the country.

During this time, day and night temperatures will remain almost unchanged across the country.

It rained in all sections from 6am on Wednesday to 6am on Thursday. The highest rainfall, 45 mm in 24 hours at this time was recorded in Mongla of Khulna.
