Stolen newborn baby rescued, two arrested

A team of Detective Branch under Rajshahi Metropolitan Police rescued the stolen new-born baby from the Paltur Slum area of Monnafer More under Boalia police station around 1-00 pm on Saturday after 27-hour of stealing of the child from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. 

Police also arrested the woman and her husband involved with the stealing of the child. 

Arrested woman has been identified as Mousumi Begum (23) and her husband is Sajib (25). The are residents of Poltu Commissioner slum at Raninagar area under Boalia police station. 

RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique at a press conference informed at the office of DB, RMP that the woman who stole the child was an issueless woman.  They were married eight-year ago but they have no child. 

However, police were investigating whether the couple is involved in any child-liting group. Police Commissioner said, the child has already been handed over to its grandma and grandpa and legal action will be taken against the arrested couples on the allegation of stealing the child.  

Taposhi Robidas, grandma of the child said, the child has been named as Luxmi. They were extremely happy by getting back the child. 

Father of the child Masum Robidas works as shoe-maker in front of the Emergency Department of the hospital. He informed, he saw the woman several times in front of the hospital. He expressed his gratitude to police for getting back his child. 

It is learnt, Masum Robidas is a resident of ID Baganpara of the city. His wife Kamala Robidas Shilpi was admitted to the hospital with labour pain on last Wednesday and at night the child was born through Cesarian operation. 

On Thursday morning, Mousumi went to the hospital and patt the child by taking it on her lap. 

On Friday morning, she again went to the hospital when the mother of child Kamala was sleeping when Mousumi managed to escape with the child. After awakening, she called her auntie who was also sleeping beside her. She went outside the ward but did not see the child anywhere. Later, police rescued the stolen child 27-hour after its abduction.
