Stocks witness up on large-cap vibe

Stocks on Wednesday witnessed upward trend as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges were found rising with higher activities of some large-cap securities. The rising major sectors were insurance, engineering, IT, textile and
pharmaceuticals and chemicals. A total of 141 securities of the large-ca group moved up on higher activities, agency reports. The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 29.74 points up at 5,410.70. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 11.11 points up at 1,241.92 and with 15.06 points up at 1,911.56 respectively.

The volume of shares fell to 11.48 crore from Tuesday’s 12.16 crore shares and the daily turnover in value at DSE decreased to Taka 431.65 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 453.38 crore. At the DSE, price of 173 securities out of the day’s 353 traded issues closed higher against 124 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were BGIC, Shurwid, Intech, ANLIMAYARN and SILCOPHL. The major losing issues were IPDC, SEMLFBSLGF, Premier Leasing, VAMLBDMF1 and Meghna Pet. UPGDCL topped the turnover leaders followed by National Polymer, JMISMDL, Square Pharma and Fortune. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 83.76 points up at 16,561.36. At the CSE, 267 issues were traded. Of those, 130 closed higher and 103 closed lower while 96.73 lakh shares worth Taka 39.38 crore changed hands.
