Stocks witness flat as major sectors plunge

Stock markets Wednesday witnessed flat due to lower activities of large-cap securities. The falling major sectors were insurance, food and allied and textile. A total of 130 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower
activities, BSS reports.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 11.17 points down at 5,411.40. The blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 2.71 points down at 1,897.81 and with 2.79 points down at 1,235.08 respectively. At the DSE, out of the day’s 351 securities, prices of 124 securities closed higher against 174 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were Rupali Life Insurance, Sun Life Insurance, Eastern Insurance, Prime Life Insurance and East Land Insurance. The major losing issues were Northern Insurance, Global Insurance, Beach Hatchery, Nitol Insurance and Prime Textile. UPGDCL topped the turnover list followed by Eastern Insurance, JMISMDL, NURANI and Sonar Bangla Insurance.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with down with its major CASPI 9.59 points down at 16,565.72. At the CSE, a total of 267 issues were traded while 104 closed higher and 141 closed lower when 87.39 lakh shares worth Taka 35.48 crore changed hands.
