Stock markets on Monday extended loss as most of the major sectors closed lower.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 65.26 points or 0.93 per cent to settle at 6,926.29. Two other indices also edged lower. The DSE 30 Index comprising blue chips fell 26 points to finish at 2,559.15 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) shed 9.28 point to close at 1,481.89.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, fell to Taka 12,150.12 million on the country’s premier bourse, which was Taka 13,331.34 million at the previous session.
Losers took a strong lead over the gainers, as out of 380 issues traded, 264 declined, 72 advanced and 44 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Union Bank topped the turnover chart followed by Beximco, BSC, National Polymer and Queen South.
BD Thai Food was the day’s best performer while NFML was the worst loser.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI -losing by 190.77 points to settle at 20,298.59 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX shedding 114.11 points to close at 12,194.20.
Of the issues traded, 228 declined, 54 advanced and 23 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city’s bourse traded 2.44 crore shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 52.27 crore.
