Stocks bounced back in the last week from four straight weeks’ losing streak as the regulatory initiatives encouraged the investors to increase their participation in the market.
Market analysts said the stocks continued to fall in the last several weeks due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and instability in the global commodity market. As a result, price of most of the shares has reduced during the time.
Most of the investors hold their position on sector-wise securities that pushed the market up in the last weeks, they added.
The regulatory interventions helped minimise the investors’ loss in the last several weeks, otherwise investors could loss further.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) raised the margin-loan ratio to 1:1, meaning investors would get a maximum of Tk 100 in loans against their investment of Tk 100 for any marginable company.
Later, the securities regulator also reduced the lower circuit limit and saved the market from a big fall.
The prime DSEX index went up by 213.55 points or 0.32 percent to
close at 6451.53 on Thursday. In the previous four weeks, the DSEX reduced a total of 424 points.
The Shariah-based DSES index stood at 1415.72 points, gaining 3.06 percent or 42.01 points while the blue-chip DS30 index increased by 2.09 percent or 48.30 points to settle at 2355.68.
The market capitalisation on the DSE stood at Tk 5,202.77 billion on Thursday, up 2.42 percent from the previous week.
The DSE posted a daily average turnover of Tk 7.85 billion during the week, which was 28.55 percent higher than in the previous week.
Of the 393 issues traded, 356 advanced and 22 declined while nine others remained unchanged.
On the other hand, the port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw a rapid growth with its selective category index (CSCX) gaining 3.30 percent in the last week to close at 11,329 points.
The All-Share Price Index (CASPI) of the CSE was also lower by 3.34 percent to close at 18,891 points.
Of the 346 issues traded, 299 advanced, 35 declined and 12 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.
The port city's bourse traded 4.74 crore shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Tk 115.82 crore during the last week.
