The stock of Corona virus vaccines is declining rapidly in Rajshahi.
Until Thursday (29 April), the total stock of Covid-19 vaccines in Rajshahi district and under Rajshahi City Corporation areas was only 15,000 which would be exhausted within a couple of days.
Rajshahi Civil Surgeon office sources informed, 2,400 t0 2,500 people on an average are being vaccinated daily for Covid-19 virus in nine upazilas of the district while in Rajshahi City Corporation areas more than 2,000 people are being vaccinated daily.
However, Rajshahi Civil Surgeon office sources informed, 2,400 (each vial contains jabs for 10 people) more vials of vaccines will reach in Rajshahi on Sunday (May-2) next. The new arrival will ensure vaccinations for 24,000 more people excluding the present stocks.
Meanwhile, Department of Health of Rajshahi has sent a demand note to Dhaka Health Department seeking more vaccines for eight districts of Rajshahi division. Rajshahi Health Department officials said, there would be no shortage of vaccines after the arrival of more vaccines from Dhaka.
According to Rajshahi Civil Surgeon and Rajshahi Divisional Health Department offices so far nearly 650,000 people have taken the first dosage of Covid-19 vaccines in Rajshahi division and till Thursday last, more than 225,000 people took the second dosage of the vaccines in the division.
Dr. Quaiyum Talukder, Civil Surgeon of Rajshahi informed, people are being vaccinated in phases from the present stocks and still 15,000 vaccines are in stock in Rajshahi. 2,400 new vials are arriving on Sunday in Rajshahi.
He is hopeful, there will be no crisis of vaccines in the district.
He further said, the stock situation of vaccines would improve as soon as 50 lakh vaccines from Russia, 20 lakh vaccines from India and China arrive in the country.
Dr. Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Director of Health of Rajshahi division informed, Director General of Health held a meeting on vaccine related issues with the top field level health officials of the country on April-25. Requirement of vaccines for entire Rajshahi division has been submitted through a statistics in the meeting.
