Stern action if Aedes larvae found in city: CCC Mayor

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has said strict measures, including jail sentence and fine, will be taken if Aedes mosquito larvae are found in the city.

He made these remarks to reporters after a preparatory meeting organised to prevent dengue and chikungunya at the temporary head office of CCC at Tiger Pass in the city on Sunday afternoon.

CCC Mayor said, "Dengue outbreak increases during the rainy season. Aedes mosquitoes breed in clear stagnant water. If water is stored in flower tubs, drums, roofs or any other place, it becomes a breeding ground."  He said that CCC is implementing a special 'crash program' for three months to public awareness increasing. Regular raids will be conducted through mobile courts. In homes where Aedes mosquito larvae are found, immediate cases will be filed, fines will be imposed and, if necessary, imprisonment will be imposed.

Mayor Shahadat said, "Free antigen testing facilities have been set up in CCC-run hospitals to identify dengue and 10 beds have been prepared for the treatment of dengue patients. We are fully prepared to combat dengue. However, this war is not just for the City Corporation. Everyone must keep their homes clean both inside and outside."
