Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Haque Shamim said relevant government organizations are finding out riverbank erosion prone districts to avert damages of farming land and other properties.
"We have identified 54 riverbank erosion risky areas in 22 districts analyzing long-range weather forecast... the government directed the relevant organization to take measures accordingly," he told a meeting held at Choria village under Atpara upazila in the district on Thursday.
The deputy minister said the extent of damages caused by riverbank erosion have reduced significantly as the government is taking early measures to deal with the disaster events.
He said, "Many people of the country become homeless and landless as the country experience riverbank erosion every year. This is a common disaster event of Bangladesh and we are preparing the 100-yearlong delta plan for ensuring better management of water resource sector."
